Fifth Grade Math
Students will proceed with Chapter 8 Measurements this week converting customary measurements such as length, time, weight and capacity. They will also convert metric measurements of length, time and capacity between units. Remember, to convert a larger unit (yards) to a smaller unit (inches), you multiply. To convert a smaller unit (centimeters) to a bigger unit (meters), you divide. There will be a Quiz Friday on the ability to convert between units of measure within the same measurement system. I anticipate the Chapter 8 test to be Thursday, April 25. Students will continue practice with Multiplication Timed Tests of basic facts.
Fourth Grade Math
Students will continue with Chapter 11 Fractions. This week we will continue to cover comparing fractions, determining parts of a group (multiply fraction by whole numbers) and mixed numbers. A quiz of those topics will be held on Friday. We are learning to solve these problems visually and mathematically. We spent a few extra days on comparing fractions by making common denominators, so the Chapter 11 Test is now planned for Wed. April 24.
