Week of May 20
Fifth Grade Math
This week we finish up algebra skills with a quiz on Monday. The remainder of the week we will review skills learned throughout fifth grade. A graded cumulative review assignment will be given out on Wed. and Due on Friday. Students will also receive a problem solving sheet due on Friday.
Fourth Grade Math
Students will have a short quiz on Tuesday on Perimeter and Area. We will spend the remainder of the week reviewing the skills covered throughout fourth grade. Students will be given a graded cumulative review assignment on Wed. which will be due on Friday. We will take one final Multiplication Timed test this week.

Highlights: Students are taking a Chapter 2 test this week. continue work with dominant and recessive genes and
finding out how mutations affect traits in organisms. A lesson 2 quiz
will be held on Wednesday and Thursday.
Fifth Grade Reading, Spelling & Vocab Highlights
Reading: Fifth grade continues reading their Jerry Spinelli novels, Crash and
Maniac Magee. Students receive a comprehension strategy
assignment with each section of the book they read. They perform
roles such as Discussion Director, Passage Picker, Connector and
Summarizer to practice their comprehension skills. Each section
contains 8-10 new vocabulary words for students to learn.

week with a test on Friday.

Week of May 13
Fifth Grade Math
This week we plan to cover a set of algebra skills from Chapter 10, such as: solving equations with variables (letters taking the place of numbers); recognizing the importance of order when multiple operations exist in an equation; identifying patterns and functions; and, graphing equations. We may not cover all the topics due to VIP performances this week. There will be a short quiz on these topics on Friday or Monday (May 20th). Students will receive a problem solving sheet due on Friday.
Fourth Grade Math
Students continue work in Chapter 9 progressing to the metric system of measurement. There will be a quiz on Tuesday identifying appropriate units of measure for items and converting from one unit of measure to the next. Next, students will refresh their knowledge of perimeter and area in Chapter 10 of the textbook. We hope to have a short quiz Monday (May 20) on those 2 topics. m. Students will be given a problem solving WS due on Fridays. Continue practicing basic multiplication facts - only 2 more weekly timed tests remain!

Fifth Grade Math
On Monday, students take a Quiz on Geometry topics of lines, polygons, triangles and Quadrilaterals. Next, we cover topics of perimeter, area and volume from Chapter 12. A short quiz on those topics will be held Friday. We are covering just a few topics from each chapter as we wrap up skills present in the new Math Common Core Standards. Each week from now until the end
of the year, students will be given a Problem Solving WS due on Fridays. Students will also receive some homework assignments reviewing the skills they learned in fifth grade.
Fourth Grade Math
Students wrapped up fraction studies last week. They begin working with Chapter 9 Measurement. We will cover customary measurement units of length (yards, feet,inches), capacity (gallons - ounces) and weight (pounds,tons) along with Metric Length (meters). A short quiz will be given on Friday covering the customary system. We are skipping around in the Textbook to cover topics according to the Math Common Core Standards. Each week from now until the end of the year, students will be given a problem solving WS due on Fridays. Reading: For the next few weeks, fifth grade will be reading realistic fiction
Jerry Spinelli novels. Mrs. Stillo's class is reading Maniac Magee.
Mrs. Hall's class is reading Crash. Comprehension strategies and
vocabulary will accompany the novel studies. Students will learn new
strategies to aid in interpreting and writing about nonfiction text.
Spelling: Lesson 34. Workbook due Thursday; Test on Friday.
Vocabulary: Unit 16 Vocab Cards are due on Friday.

We continue with Chapter 8 God's Kingdom past, present and future as we explore parables.
