Week of December 16


MATH 

Fourth Grade Math
We take the Chapter 4 Division Test this week. Part one (estimating quotients) will be on Monday.  The remainder of the test (long division) wil be on Wednesday and Thursday.  4th graders will have 2 days of Math this week. They will also receive a computation review worksheet due on Tuesday, January 8th. The Math Websites Tab contains some videos on Long Division. A good way to practice is to use the GoMath website, choosing "Carmen San Diego Animated Math Models" Grade 4 icon (skills 13 and 14).  Also, students should continue strengthening Multiplication Facts. You can print your own worksheets from Math-drills.com (website listed in Tab above).

Fifth Grade Math 
Note: Mrs. Hall is not available for after school Math Help this Wednesday. Students are beginning Chapter 5: Decimal Division this week, covering lessons 1 & 2.  We will also take a Diocesan Assessment on Wednesday.  This assessment will also be used as Graded Homework.  Students will receive a computation review worksheet due on Tuesday, January 8th.

4th Grade Monday:  2:25 - 3:15 
5th Grade Wednesday: Mrs. Hall is not Available on 12/18 

SCIENCE 

Fourth Grade 

We will begin a Lesson to learn about two types of circuits, series and parallel.  We will view a movie on Electricity and learn about using electricity safely.  

Fifth Grade 
We are investigating how the tilt of the earth axis causes different amounts of direct sunlight to reach different parts of the earth and the difference between weather and climate.  5th grade weather projects (posters) are due on Wednesday, December 18th.

Reading, Spelling & Vocab Highlights
Reading: We read informational text, Time for Kids, 2013 in Pictures, and take
             a Comprehension Test on the issue. Students can enter Time For Kids
             poetry contest. We will also read Christmas Stories.
              
Spelling: Lesson 17 
             Mrs. Hall's class: Workbooks due on Thursday. 
             Mrs. Stillo's class: Workbooks due on Friday.
             Test and 5x each assignment on Friday.
                  
Vocabulary: Unit 9 Vocab Cards will be due on Friday 12/21. 

Religion


We continue to study the season of advent and share St. Reports as we prepare for Christmas.

Christmas Concert:  Thursday: Noon and 6:30pm
Christmas Room Parties: 10:10 - 11:20 (dismissal)
Congratulations to Adam Stillo who is getting married next weekend!
Mrs. Stillo will be taking some time off to help prepare for the big event.

Week of December 9


MATH 

Fourth Grade Math
We continue work on Chapter 4, Division. We will cover Lessons in the following order:   
     Monday - Lesson 4.12: Multi-step Problem Solving
     Tuesday - Lesson 4.6: Division with Distributed Property 
     Wednesday - Lesson 4.8: Division using Partial Quotients
     Thursday - Chapter 4 Review (packet for Homework) 
     Friday - Chapter 4 Review (packet) 
The Chapter 4 test will be given in two parts on Monday & Tuesday, December 16th and 17th.  The first part involve estimating and dividing with powers of 10 (place value patterns) skills.  The second part will be the long division problems.  The Math Websites Tab contains some videos on Long Division. Fifth Grade Math 
We will review the multiplication of decimal concepts on Monday and Tuesday this week. The Chapter 4 Test will occur on Wednesday, December 11.   A good way to practice skills  is to use the GoMath website, choosing "Carmen San Diego Animated Math Models Grade 5 icon.  The Math Websites Tab contains some videos that review multiplying with decimals. 

Math Help - Office Hours

SCIENCE 

Fourth Grade 

We will begin working on Chapter 3, Lesson 1, and students will explore the effects of electric charges on matter, discover how objects get an electric charge and learn how electric current flows.  We should be ready for a quiz on Lesson 1 by Friday.    

Fifth Grade 
All students will begin their weather project on Sunday, December 8, and it will end on December 15th.  The weather poster is due on December 18th.  This is the introduction to our Chapter on Climate.

Reading, Spelling & Vocab Highlights
Reading: We read Storytown Lesson 10, The Secret Ingredient, a Reader's 
             Theatre selection. 
              
Spelling: Lesson 16 
             Mrs. Hall's class: Workbooks due on Thursday. 
             Mrs. Stillo's class: Workbooks due on Friday.
             Test and 5x each assignment on Friday.
             Remember to review Spelling Bee List. Classroom Spelling Bee will be
             held Thursday or Friday. 
              
Vocabulary: Unit 8 Vocab Cards will be due on Friday 12/6. 

Religion


We continue to study the season of advent, work on Sacrament Booklets and prepare for Christmas.
