Week of November 25: Happy Thanksgiving


MATH 

Fourth Grade Math
We continue work on Chapter 4 Division this week.  We will cover Lessons 4.3 Interpreting Remainders (Practice Book Homework on Monday) and Lesson 4.5 this shortened week. On Monday, Students will also receive a graded assignment on Monday that will be due on Monday, December 2nd. A good way to look ahead is to use the GoMath website, choosing "Carmen San Diego Animated Math Models" Grade 4 icon (skills 13 and 14). You can print your own worksheets from Math-drills.com (website listed in Tab above).

Fifth Grade Math 
We begin Chapter 4 Multiplying Decimals this week.  We will double up on Math (80 minutes each day instead of 40) in order to do some group work.  The group work will cover Lessons 1 - 5, Multiplying decimals by powers of tens, multiplying with regrouping (standard method), multiplying decimals using models and multiplying money. Those topics will also be revisited the week of December 2nd.  On Monday, students will receive a graded homework assignment due on Monday, December 2nd. A good way to practice skills  is to use the GoMath website, choosing "Carmen San Diego Animated Math Models Grade 5 icon.

SCIENCE 

Fourth Grade 

We are learning about simple machines as fourth graders work on fun simple machine packets this shortened week.  The Chapter 2 test will occur the week of December 2nd. 

Fifth Grade 
There is no fifth grade science this week, as we are doubling up on Math to try group and center work.   The Chapter 2 Test will occur the week of December 2nd. 
Reading, Spelling & Vocab Highlights
Reading: Students will use Time For Kids to read about the Philipines Typhoon
             and create a summary of the story and associated video. They will 
             also take a Comprehension Quiz on the magazine issue. 
              
Spelling: Lesson 12 Review Lesson - workbook and test on Tuesday. 
             We will complete Lesson 15 the week of December 2nd. 
             Students received a Spelling Bee List in their Friday Folders.  The 
             5th graders classroom spelling bee will be held no earlier than 12/12.
              
Vocabulary:   
             Unit 7 Test on Monday (11/25). (No other Vocab this week)
             Unit 8 Vocab Cards will be due on Friday 12/6. 

Religion

We hope to share some St. Reports and continue work on Sacrament Booklets if time.

Week of November 18


MATH 

Fourth Grade Math
We begin Chapter 4 Division this week.  We will cover vocabulary, estimating with multiples and interpreting remainders as we explore dividing 2-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers.  There will be a quiz on these skills on Friday.  A good way to look ahead is to use the GoMath website, choosing "Carmen San Diego Animated Math Models" Grade 4 icon (skills 13 and 14).  Additionally, check out new Math games by clicking on the Math Websites Tab above. We continue weekly Multiplication Facts timed practice drills.  You can print your own worksheets from Math-drills.com (website listed in Tab above).

Fifth Grade Math 
We cover Chapter 3 Lessons 11-12 as students understand adding and subtracting decimals as related to money and bank balances!  We will review on Wednesday and take the Chapter 3 Test on Thursday. A good way to practice skills  is to use the GoMath website, choosing "Carmen San Diego Animated Math Models Grade 5 icon (skills 15-18). Check out new Math games by clicking on Math Websites Tab above. Recommended Games: Expresso & Kakooma. They are "timed" so try to Beat Your Score!  We continue weekly Multiplication Facts timed practice drills.

SCIENCE 

Fourth Grade 

We are working on Lesson 3 and discovering what work is.  We will explore how simple machines affect motion and make work easier. We will discover what compound and complex machines are. We should be ready for a quiz on Friday, November 22nd. 


Fifth Grade 
We are learning more about resources. Lesson 3 is covering land resources and how we preserve them. We should have a quiz on Wednesday, November 20th and begin Lesson 4, learning about air pollution.

Reading, Spelling & Vocab Highlights
Reading: Storytown Lesson 8, Washington Crosses the Delaware,  
       Genre: Narrative Nonfiction (written by Lynn Cheney)
       Comprehension Skills: Use graphic organizers and Sequence of events to
           support our comprehension. 
       Compare & Contrast: Story with Poem on Revolutionary War
       Comprehension Test on Friday.
              
Spelling: Lesson 14 (We will do the Lesson 12 Review next week) 
             Mrs. Hall's class: workbook is due on Thursday. 
             Mrs. Stillo's class: workbook is due on Friday. 
             Lesson 14 Test and 5x each - Friday
              
Vocabulary:   
             Unit 7 Workbook due Friday.
             Unit 7 Test on Monday (11/25).

Religion

We hope to share some St. Reports this week. We will also start creating Sacrament Booklets and begin Chapter 4.
