Week of January 27




MATH 

Fourth Grade Math
4th Graders will review fraction skills learned in previous years.  We will begin Chapter 6, Fraction Equivalence and Comparison this week.  Due to the shortened week, there will not be a quiz this week. For fraction skills covered this chapter,  "Carmen San Diego Animated Math Models" Grade 4 icon (skills 21 - 26). Multiplication facts are very important for Fraction skills. Students should practice these skills frequently with worksheets, flashcards or websites.  You can print your own worksheets from Math-drills.com (website listed in Tab above).

Fifth Grade Math 
Fifth graders will review fraction skills from 4th grade, then we will begin Chapter 6: Adding and Subtracting Fractions with Unlike Denominators. Due to the shortened week, we may have a short review quiz only on the fraction skills acquired in 4th grade.  To help with Fraction skills covered in this chapter, students should logon to the GoMath Carmen San Diego Animated Math Models for Skills 22-25. Multiplication facts are very important for Fraction skills. SCIENCE 

Fourth Grade 

4th graders will begin working on Lesson 2 in science and learn how light acts when it hits different materials, find out how flat and curved mirrors reflect light and discover how light bends.  Quiz on Lesson 2 - Friday, January 31st. 

Fifth Grade 

5th graders will learn about planets and other objects in the solar system, and learn how objects in the solar system affect Earth.  Quiz on Lesson 1 - Friday, January 31st.   

Reading, Spelling & Vocab Highlights
Reading: We review key events from Stormalong and take the Lesson 13 
              Comprehension test on Wednesday. 
            We will practice comprehension and main idea reading skills using 
            Time for Kids magazine and other short stories. There will be an "open 
            magazine" Time for Kids comprehension test. 
              
Spelling: Lesson 21 
             Mrs. Hall's class: Workbooks due on Thursday. 
             Mrs. Stillo's class: Workbooks due on Friday.
             Test and 5x each assignment on Friday.
                  
Vocabulary: Unit 11 Cards  are due on Friday.
             Unit 10 Test Wednesday, Jan. 29th.
          

Religion

We continue Chapter 5: Prayer and Worship this week as we learn about the Ark of the Covenant.  Please hand in Cathedral Days Permission Slips so our school can register for the trip to St. Raymonds.

Week of January 20th



MATH 

Fourth Grade Math
4th Graders will review Chapter 5 skills on Tuesday and take the Chapter Test on Wednesday. To practice skills for Chapter 5 see  "Carmen San Diego Animated Math Models" Grade 4 icon (skills 20, 21, 22). We will begin Chapter 6, Fraction Equivalence and Comparison on Thursday.Students should continue strengthening Multiplication Facts. You can print your own worksheets from Math-drills.com (website listed in Tab above).

Fifth Grade Math 
Fifth graders will review Chapter 5: Decimal Division skills on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. To help prepare for the test, students should logon to the GoMath Carmen San Diego Animated Math Models for Skills 20 & 21.  The Chapter 5 Test will be on Thursday, January 23.  Student's Decimal Projects are due on Friday, January 24th. The students will create a Restaurant Menu or Store and create customer orders that use operations with decimals. Construction paper is available in my room to complete the project. 
We begin Chapter 6: Adding and Subtracting Fractions with Unlike Denominators on Friday.

Fifth Grade 
5th graders are working on the Diocesan Science Assessment for Physical Science. Students will conduct a simple buoyancy investigation called "Canister in a Cup".  Upon Completion of the Diocesan Assessment, students will begin Chapter 4, Lesson 1, "Astronomy".  

Reading, Spelling & Vocab Highlights
Reading: Storytown: Stormalong      Genre:  Tall Tale 
             We will work on comprehension skills of compare/contrast and self-
             monitoring by asking questions. 
             
             Student's Goals Essays will be displayed in the hallway.
              
Spelling: Lesson 20 
             Mrs. Hall's class: Workbooks due on Thursday. 
             Mrs. Stillo's class: Workbooks due on Friday.
             Test and 5x each assignment on Friday.
                  
Vocabulary: Unit 10 Workbook pages are due on Friday.
             Unit 10 Test Monday, Jan. 27th.
          

Religion

We begin Chapter 5: Prayer and Worship this week as we express gratitude to God and discuss how worship is represented in the Bible.
