Week of April 28



MATH 

Fourth Grade Math
4th graders will review Chapter 9, Relating Fractions to Decimals, on Monday and have a Quest (short Test/Quiz) on Tuesday. They should use last week's quiz, PB Extra Practice and Student Edition Chapter Review to help prepare for the Quest. On Wednesday, they begin Chapter 10, Geometry.    
Reminders:  
      To practice decimal skills covered in Chapter 9, logon to GoMath activities  "Carmen San Diego Animated Math Models" Grade 4 icon (skill 34-37) and Mega Math Fraction Action. 
      Students should practice Multiplication and Division basic facts frequently with worksheets, flashcards or websites.  You can print your own worksheets from Math-drills.com, play online games (see Math Websites Tab above), or borrow some "Holey Cards" from Mrs. Hall.

Fifth Grade Math 

NOTE: Math help for 5th graders will be on Tuesday after school for this week. I have a meeting on Wednesday at the Diocese.  

We begin Chapter 10 Measurement this week (We covered Chapter 9 before Chapters 7 & 8).  We will cover Lessons 1 - 4 using customary units of measurement.  There will be a quiz on Friday.  

Reminders:  
       The GoMath online activities offer good ways to practice Math skills. To practice skills for Chapter 10, GoMath Carmen San Diego Animated Math Models for Skills 33-39.  
       Multiplication facts are very important for Fraction skills. Students should practice these skills frequently with worksheets, flashcards or websites.  You can print your own worksheets from Math-drills.com (website listed in Tab above).

SCIENCE 

Fourth Grade 

4th graders will begin Chapter 2 and find the similarities and differences among certain animals. We will also learn to make and read a bar graph. 
  
Fifth Grade 

5th graders will understand what dominant and recessive genes are and find out how mutations affect traits in organisms (Lesson 2). Possible quiz on Thursday. 

Reading, Spelling & Vocab Highlights
             
Reading: Novels for Reading: Author Jerry Spinelli
             Mrs. Stillo's class will be reading Maniac Magee
             Mrs. Hall's class will be reading Crash
             Students will practice comprehension skills and learn new vocabulary. 
             There will be quizzes given about once a week. We anticipate the 
             novel study to take 3-4 weeks as most of the reading will be done in 
             class.  
          
Spelling: Lesson 33  
             Workbooks due on Thursday. 
             Test and 5x each assignment on Friday.
                  
Vocabulary:              
             Unit 16 Workbook Due Friday. 
             Unit 16 Test - Monday, May 5.

Religion

We will continue with Family Life, reviewing Unit 1 God's Gift of Family and covering Unit 2, God's Gift of Self.
