Week of February 23

No SCHOOL on Friday. Progress Reports will be issued on Thursday.

Students received Cathedral Day Permission Slips.  Please return.

It's the last week of the Box Top Contest. We were in 4th place as of Friday. Keep them coming!

Please return the Energy Saver Surveys as soon as possible.

MATH 

Fourth Grade 
4th graders will cover Adding and Subtracting fractions with like denominators, (Chapter 7 lessons 2 - 5) this week, taking a Quiz on Thursday. Students will receive additional homework sheets to practice the skills learned in Chapter 6. Use Carmen San Diego Math Model Skills 27-32, to practice concepts from Chapter 7. Remember we need to share logins 1-4 at this time. 

Multiplication Facts: Students will be receiving multiplication fact homework each week in order to master their facts. They are responsible for writing facts 5x each. You can print your own worksheets to practice from Math-drills.com, play online games (see Math Websites Tab above), or borrow some "Holey Cards" from Mrs. Hall. 

Fifth Grade  
5th graders will cover Chapter 7, Lessons 3-7 this week.  Students should use notes in their spirals to help with homework each night.  There will be a Quiz on Thursday covering Lessons 1 - 5 (not mixed number multiplication).  Use Carmen San Diego Math Model Skills 27-28, to practice concepts from Chapter 7. Remember we need to share logins 1-4 at this time. 
Use Carmen San Diego Math Models, Skills 27-28, to help with Chapter 7 skills. GOMATH Online Access:  To use the website we should continue to share the logins for numbers 1 - 4 ( instead of individual student numbers). 

Multiplication Facts: Continue practicing multiplication facts at home because they are ESSENTIAL for Fractions. You can print your own worksheets from Math-drills.com, play online games (see Math Websites Tab above), or borrow some "Holey Cards" from Mrs. Hall.


Math Help/Club Hours 
After School (students need a "travel note")
4th Graders only: Tue. 2:20pm  - 3:15pm
5th Graders only:  Wed.  2:20pm - 3:15pm
Before School (students need a "Mrs. Hall permission note")
Both 4th and 5th Graders:
 Wednesday and Fridays from 7:15am - 7:45am 
Also, Mrs. Lux will be available at 7:20am on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays to assist students as well!


SCIENCE 

Fourth Grade 

4th graders will learn how your ear works and determine how sounds can be made louder.  (Lesson 4)  

We should be ready for a quiz, Lesson 4, by Wednesday, and will begin studying for the chapter test.

Fifth Grade 
5th graders will discover how scientists classify living things, learn what the kingdoms are and explore how the kingdoms are divided into small groups.

We should be ready for a quiz on Lesson 2 by Thursday

Week of February 16


MATH 

Fourth Grade 
4th graders will begin Chapter 7, Adding & Subtracting Fractions. We will also prepare for and take a Diocesan Test regarding fractions based on concepts learned from Chapter 6.  The Diocesan Test will count as a 12-point quiz grade for the 3rd quarter. On Friday, we will celebrate 100 days of Math class with a series of games each lasting 100 seconds, as well as playing Math bingo. Use Carmen San Diego Math Model Skills 27-28, to practice concepts from Chapter 7. Remember we need to share logins 1-4 at this time.

5th graders will will discover what cells are and learn what tissues, organs and systems are. They will draw and label cells, memorizing the cell parts. They should be ready for a quiz by Friday. 

Reading, Spelling & Vocab Highlights
              
Reading: We practice comprehension of informational text this week using a Time For Kids magazine (with a graded quiz) and an additional graded Comprehension Packet discussing race/racism.
