Week of February 1

MATH

Fourth Grade

Although Catholic Schools’ week is upon us, we are still going to try to complete Chapter 6 and have our test on Friday.   Our fraction project- Most Wanted Fractions- is due on Friday also.

Fifth Grade

5th graders will finish up Chapter 6 Add & Subtract Fractions with Unlike Denominators this week as we add and subtract mixed numbers, find rules for patterns of mixed numbers, solve problems by working backward and see how commutative and associative properties can help us add mixed numbers quicker.  We will have a Quick Quiz on Friday.

The wonderful Decimal Restaurant/Store projects will be on display in the hallway for Catholic School Week.

4th & 5th Grade Multiplication Facts

Most fourth graders should aim for completing 25 facts per minute and fifth graders should aim for completing 30 facts per minute. Some fifth graders have PASSED all their multiplication facts quizzes.  If they weren't passed, students will retake thenumbers they have not mastered again.  This results in a quarterly quiz grade. You can print your own worksheets from Math-drills.com, play online games (see "Math Websites Tab" above), or borrow some "Holey Cards" from Mrs. Hall.

Fifth graders will begin retesting on facts they have not yet mastered this week.  Each student will get a list of facts to practice each week.

Catholic Schools’ Week is a time of celebration and comradery. There are many fun activities going on all week and School Spirit is at its peak. Because of all the celebration, we will continue our chapter the following week. I do hope to get all the chapter 6 tests in and complete the Unit Review sometime this week. Upcoming events are: Cathedral Days, Class Mass on the 16th of February, Ash Wednesday school Mass, and the Stations of the Cross on Fridays during Lent.

This week we are learning about equivalent fractions, simplifying fractions, and adding and subtracting unit fractions. Your student will be working on a fraction packet all week and the completed packet is due on Friday. We will have a short quiz on Thursday on what we have covered thus far. I will be sending home a rubric for our next Math project on Friday.

We will also be watching videos from Father Morris on the meaning of the virtues and how we can practice them in our own life. Our Mass readings for Tuesday are from Titus 1 and Matthew 28:16-20. The Mass is a memorial of Titus and Timothy (bishops).
