MATH
Fourth Grade
This
week your students will be getting their new Math book. We will be keeping the
old one in school for a while to refer to when needed. Our first chapter is an
introduction to fractions. We will be doing another Math project soon which will obviously involve that subject. There will be quizzes usually on a third Fridays and quarter computation test
at some point. I am emphasizing the fact that we will be using all the
skills that we have learned thus far so it is important to refresh ourselves
often.
Fifth Grade
5th graders turned in GREAT Decimal Restaurant/Store projects. We will have them on display in the hallway
for Catholic School Week. When we take them down, the students will use their
estimating skills and a paper debit card, to see how much they can buy from
each other.
We
will continue to review 4th grade Fraction skills using our packets before
jumping into Volume 2 of our Math book later this week. There will be a Fraction
Review Quiz on Friday. I am planning to do 5 point "pop"
quizzes once a week using one of our previous homework problems to encourage
students to review their notes and homework nightly. We will also be
including more of the "problem solving" pages in our homework to
better prepare students for the Chapter tests.
4th & 5th Grade Multiplication Facts
Most fourth graders should aim for completing 25 facts per minute and fifth graders should aim for completing 30 facts per minute. Some fifth graders have PASSED all their multiplication facts quizzes. If they weren't passed, students will retake the numbers they have not mastered again. This results in a quarterly quiz grade. You can print your own worksheets from Math-drills.com, play online games (see "Math Websites Tab" above), or borrow some "Holey Cards" from Mrs. Hall.
Math Help/Club Hours
After School (students need a "travel note")
4th Graders only: Tue. 2:20pm - 3:15pm
5th Graders only: Wed. 2:20pm - 3:15pm
Science
Fourth Grade
4th graders will be writing their own
quizzes for Lesson 3 and 4 on Magnets. They will receive points for each
quiz.
Fifth Grade
5th
graders will learn in Lesson 2, the difference between weather and climate, how
the sun's energy affects climate, and how the shape and tilt of the earth
affect climate and seasons.

Religion
This week we are continuing
our exploration of the Cardinal Theological Virtues in Chapter 6 of our text. We
will be doing another project involving those virtues soon. My goal for the
next quarter is to familiarize the students with the books of the New
Testament. I have some fun crosswords and word search activities to help with
that. We will also be watching some short videos from a website called Redeemed
On Line to prepare us for Lent.
