Week of February 29

MATH

Fourth Grade

This week we will begin to review for the chapter 7 test. It’s hard to believe that we are moving so fast in fraction skills. On Monday I will go over the next fraction Project which will be due on the following Monday- March 7.  The 3rd quarter Computation Test will be on Tuesday, March 1st. The Chapter 7 test will be the following week on Tuesday, March 8. Keep drilling the multiplication facts. That is why we are doing so well with fraction skills.

Fifth Grade

5th graders will wrap up Chapter 7, Multiplying Fractions, and have the test on Wednesday and Thursday this week.  Please study the chapter review since it is exactly like the test.  I will also give the How-to-Sheet with recommendations on how to best prepare for the test.

4th & 5th Grade Multiplication Facts

Most fourth graders should aim for completing 25 facts per minute and fifth graders should aim for completing 30 facts per minute. Some fifth graders have PASSED all their multiplication facts quizzes. You can print your own worksheets from Math-drills.com, play online games (see "Math Websites Tab" above), or borrow some "Holey Cards" from Mrs. Hall.

Fifth graders will begin retesting on facts they have not yet mastered this week.  Each student received a list of facts to practice each week.

Religion

Hopefully this week we are finally going to begin Chapter 7 Jesus Christ. We have been so busy rehearsing for our Living Stations and doing Lenten activities. Some of the topics we will be discussing this week are: the Incarnation, Free Will, and the Soul. My hope is that the students will grasp the nature of Jesus as both human and divine. We have been enjoying the Redeemed On-Line videos and I encourage you to check them out also.
Upcoming events are: Cathedral Days (April), Class Mass on the 16th of February,  and the Stations of the Cross on Fridays during Lent.

Week of February 22

MATH

Fourth Grade

This coming week we will begin preparing for our 3rd Quarter Computation Test. On Thursday and Friday we will complete the Review Test. The Chapter 7 test will be the following Monday and Tuesday. The students are moving right along in their pursuit of fractions. They really seem to enjoy learning new skills and they are getting more adept at using their notes for quizzes and tests. I am going to assign one more fraction project involving creating a fraction problem with unlike denominators towards the end of the week. The actual Chapter test will be the following Monday and Tuesday.

Fifth Grade

5th graders will continue with Chapter 7, covering lessons 4 - 9 this week, which include multiplying fractions by fractions and multiplying with mixed numbers.  We will also use models to understand our products and compare the relative size of the product.  We will have a quiz on Friday covering Lessons 1 - 9, solving the problems with math.

Religion

This week we will be practicing for our “Living Stations” of the Cross which will be presented on the 26th. We are sharing some of our reflections of the stations and I feel that they are really beginning to grasp the meaning of Lent and that sacrifice comes before rejoicing. I will be checking their booklets and school Lenten calendars on Monday.

Upcoming events are: Cathedral Days (April), Class Mass on the 16th of February,  and the Stations of the Cross on Fridays during Lent.
