MATH
Fourth Grade
This week we are moving right along in our journey through the world of
fractions. The projects look very creative and I hope the students had fun
inventing their little fraction scenarios. We are going to finish up our
Chapter 6 test on Monday and begin Chapter 7 – Adding and Subtracting
Fractions. This Friday we will be
celebrating our 100 Days of Math
with Math Games. Their Round 4 Number Personalities
are due by Thursday-February 11.
Fifth Grade
5th graders will take the test on Chapter 6 Add & Subtract Fractions with Unlike Denominators on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. We will Share & Shop with our Decimal Projects on Friday and Celebrate 100 days of Math Class soon.
4th & 5th Grade Multiplication Facts
Most fourth graders should aim for completing 25 facts per minute and fifth graders should aim for completing 30 facts per minute. Some fifth graders have PASSED all their multiplication facts quizzes. If they weren't passed, students will retake thenumbers they have not mastered again. This results in a quarterly quiz grade. You can print your own worksheets from Math-drills.com, play online games (see "Math Websites Tab" above), or borrow some "Holey Cards" from Mrs. Hall.
Fifth graders will begin retesting on facts they have not yet mastered this week. Each student will get a list of facts to practice each week.
Math Help/Club Hours
After School (students need a "travel note")
4th Graders only: Tue. 2:20pm - 3:15pm
5th Graders only: Wed. 2:20pm - 3:15pm
Science
Fourth Grade
4th graders will complete an activity on light and shine a flashlight on an object and observe the sharpness of the shadow it casts. They compare the clarity of the object's shadow when sheets of clear plastic, wax paper, and aluminum foil are placed between the flashlight and the object. Students learn that sound is made when matter vibrates, that volume and pitch are some properties of sound, and that sound waves travel through matter. Quiz should be on Friday.
5th graders will interpret data in a table to determine the actual diameter of the planets and the diameter of each planet's model. Students learn about planets and other objects in the solar system and how they affect Earth. Quiz should be on Friday.

The Theme is “What we do for others, we do for Jesus”.
Upcoming events are: Cathedral Days (April), Class Mass on the 16th of February, Ash Wednesday school Mass, and the Stations of the Cross on Fridays during Lent.
