MATH
Fourth Grade Math
The Chapter 6 Test, Fraction Equivalence and Comparison, will be given over 2 days (Tuesday and Wednesday). Students are allowed to use notes they create and their fraction strips. On Thursday, we begin Chapter 7, Add and Subtract Fractions. On Friday, we celebrate 100 days of Math Class.
Reminders:
The GoMath online activities offer good ways to practice the Math skills we have learned or will learn. Students have the login information. You can access the website from the Math Websites Tab above. For fraction skills covered in Chapter 6, logon to GoMath activities "Carmen San Diego Animated Math Models" Grade 4 icon (skills 21 - 26) and Mega Math Fraction Action.
Students should practice Multiplication and Division basic facts frequently with worksheets, flashcards or websites. You can print your own worksheets from Math-drills.com or play online games (see Math Websites Tab above).
Fifth Grade Math
5th graders will wrap up Chapter 6, Adding and Subtracting Fractions with Unlike Denominators, and take the test on Tuesday, February 25. They have an assignment to create a Review of the Chapter due Wednesday, February 19th (day of field trip). See Tab above for description of the assignment. Students will exchange reviews on Thursday to practice all the skills in Chapter 6. On Friday, we celebrate 100 Days in Math class with various activities.

SCIENCE
Fourth Grade
We will continue with Lesson 4 to learn about how your ear works and determine how sounds can be made louder. Students should memorize 4 parts of the ear and understand what a stethoscope, microphone, bullhorn and hearing aid do. We should have a quiz on Lesson 4 on Friday.
Fifth Grade
We have begun working on Unit 1, Life Science. In Lesson 1, students will learn what the six life processes are, draw and memorize the parts of animal and plant cells and begin to learn what tissues, organs and systems are. There will be no quiz this week. We will begin the new lessons on sound.
Reading, Spelling & Vocab Highlights
Reading: Due to the shortened week from the holiday and field trip, we will
read Time For Kids Magazine, "A Speech for All Ages", which features
Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. Students will practice comprehension
skills using the magazine, take an "open magazine" test and practice
short story comprehension activities.
Spelling: Lesson 23
Mrs. Hall's class: Workbooks due on Thursday.
Mrs. Stillo's class: Workbooks due on Friday.
Test and 5x each assignment on Friday.
Vocabulary: Unit 12 workbook is due Friday, February 21st.
Unit 12 Test Monday, February 24th.
Religion
We attend St. Raymond's Cathedral on Wednesday. Students will discuss interesting items they learned from the field trip on Thursday. They will write an essay about what they found interesting and what they learned. We also continue with Chapter 6, which discusses the Great Commandment and morals as they relate to the cardinal virtues of prudence, temperance, fortitude and justice.

Other Fifth Grade News
Cathedral Days Field Trip - Wednesday, February 19th
Students need to wear their full school uniform. We will look at the possibility of extending the gym shoe privilege into next week for those with wrist bands.
