Week of February 3




MATH 

Fourth Grade Math
After reviewing general fraction skills last week, 4th Graders will cover Chapter 6, Lessons 2-5 this week: using multiplication to make equivalent fractions; using division to simplify fractions; and, solving word problems using equivalent fractions. There will be a quiz on Friday.  For fraction skills covered this chapter,  "Carmen San Diego Animated Math Models" Grade 4 icon (skills 21 - 26). Multiplication facts are very important for fraction skills! Students should practice these skills frequently with worksheets, flashcards or websites.  You can print your own worksheets from Math-drills.com or play online games (see Math websites listed in the Tab above).

Fifth Grade Math 
I am very pleased with the creative and accurate decimal restaurant (or store) projects the students turned in last week! Fifth graders will continue review of fraction skills acquired in 4th grade and begin Chapter 6 on Tuesday. We will cover Lessons 1 - 3: Adding, Subtracting and Estimating fractions with Unlike Denominators. There will be a quiz on Friday. To help with Fraction skills covered in this chapter, students should logon to the GoMath Carmen San Diego Animated Math Models for Skills 22-25. Multiplication facts are very important for Fraction skills. Students should practice these skills frequently with worksheets, flashcards or websites.  You can print your own worksheets from Math-drills.com (website listed in Tab above).

SCIENCE 

Fourth Grade 

We will not have science on Monday, because the 5th graders are taking a Diocesan Religion Test the first thing Monday morning.  We will finish Lesson 2 (Light) on Tuesday and have a quiz on Wednesday.  On Thursday, we will begin Lesson 3 (Sound). 

Fifth Grade 

We are completing Lesson 1 and finding out about objects in our solar system. We will have a quiz on Lesson 1 on Tuesday. After that, we will begin learning about constellations.    

Reading, Spelling & Vocab Highlights
Reading: Storytown: Lesson 14 A Drop of Water 
              Comprehension test on Friday. 
            We will also read about the Winter Olympic Games using the Time for 
            Kids magazine and write a summary of the article. The rough draft 
            is due on Friday
              
Spelling: Lesson 21 
             Mrs. Hall's class: Workbooks due on Thursday. 
             Mrs. Stillo's class: Workbooks due on Friday.
             Test and 5x each assignment on Friday.
                  
Vocabulary: Unit 11 Workbook is due on Friday.
             Unit 11 Test Monday, February 10th. 
          

Religion

We will take a Diocesan Standardized Religion Test (ACRE) on Monday morning.  We will wrap up Chapter 5: Prayer and Worship this week. Please hand in Cathedral Days Permission Slips so our school can register for the February 19th trip to St. Raymonds.
