Week of March 17



On Monday at 10:00am, Pilot Sparke from Southwest Airlines will continue with the 4th visit of the 4 week Adopt-a-Pilot program. Last week, we learned about the scientific principles involved in flying a plane. 

MATH 

Fourth Grade Math
On Monday and Tuesday, we will jump to Chapter 13 to cover Lessons 1 & 2, Perimeter and Area, in order to prepare for a Diocesan Written Response test on Wednesday.  On Thursday, we begin Chapter 8, Multiply Fractions and Whole Numbers.  We will cover Lessons 1 & 2.  On Friday, we correct student computation review homework.  Students will take a Computation Test on Monday, March 24th, similar to the Review Homework. Last day to turn in any missing work or Extra Credit for 3rd quarter is Wednesday, March 19th. 
  
Reminders:  
      The GoMath online activities offer good ways to practice the Math skills we have learned or will learn. Students have the login information. You can access the website from the Math Websites Tab above. For fraction skills covered in Chapter 8, logon to GoMath activities  "Carmen San Diego Animated Math Models" Grade 4 icon (skill 33) and Mega Math Fraction Action. 
      Students should practice Multiplication and Division basic facts frequently with worksheets, flashcards or websites.  You can print your own worksheets from Math-drills.com, play online games (see Math Websites Tab above), or borrow some "Holey Cards" from Mrs. Hall.

Fifth Grade Math 

5th graders will begin Chapter 7, Multiplying Fractions.  We will cover Lessons 1-4, first finding products of whole numbers and fractions with models, then finding products using multiplication.  There will be a quiz on Friday.  We will also review writing explanations for Math problems in preparation for the final 2 Diocesan Assessments during the week of March 24th. The final day to turn in any missing work or extra credit for Quarter 3 is Wednesday, March 19.

       The GoMath online activities offer good ways to practice Math skills. To practice skills for Chapter 7, GoMath Carmen San Diego Animated Math Models for Skills 27-28, and Mega Math "Fraction Action".  
       Multiplication facts are very important for Fraction skills. Students should practice these skills frequently with worksheets, flashcards or websites.  You can print your own worksheets from Math-drills.com (website listed in Tab above).

SCIENCE 

Fourth Grade 

4th grade will be finishing up Lesson 1 and find out about the group of plants that DO NOT make seeds. They will have a quiz on Tuesday (in their homeroom).  We ill begin Lesson 2 and learn what the four parts of a flower are.  Start looking for pictures of different kinds of plants. We will be making a collage.

Fifth Grade 

5th grade will complete vertebrates in Lesson 3, and have a quiz on Tuesday. We will begin Lesson 4 and learn about vascular plants, mosses, ferns, conifers and flowering plants and how they are classified.

Religion

We will begin Chapter 7, The Image of God, this week. As we discuss this topic students will draw their own image of Jesus.  We will also practice for our Living Stations of the Cross which will be held Friday at 1:15pm. Each 4th and 5th grade student will participate by reading or acting out one of the stations.
