On Monday at 10:00am, Pilot Sparke from Southwest Airlines will continue with the our second visit of the 4 week Adopt-a-Pilot program. Students can submit a design for a tie that the pilots wear! Last week we received Mr. Sparke's flight schedule and students looked up city pairs and calculated mileage flown.
MATH
Fourth Grade Math
We continue with Chapter 7, Adding & Subtracting Fractions with Like Denominators as we cover Lessons 6 - 9 this week. These lessons include use of Mixed numbers and Renaming fractions (regrouping) in order to subtract. Friday's Quiz will cover Lessons 6-8 and students will begin a Chapter Review assignment. I anticipate Chapter 7 Test around Wednesday, March 12th.

The GoMath online activities offer good ways to practice the Math skills we have learned or will learn. Students have the login information. You can access the website from the Math Websites Tab above. For fraction skills covered in Chapter 7, logon to GoMath activities "Carmen San Diego Animated Math Models" Grade 4 icon (skills 27 - 32) and Mega Math Fraction Action.
Students should practice Multiplication and Division basic facts frequently with worksheets, flashcards or websites. You can print your own worksheets from Math-drills.com, play online games (see Math Websites Tab above), or borrow some "Holey Cards" from Mrs. Hall.
Fifth Grade Math
5th graders will proceed to Chapter 9, Algebra & Graphing this week. On Friday, we used string to measure our heads to the nearest 1/4 inch. We will use this data for a project. There will be a Quiz on Friday covering Lessons 1 -4 in Chapter 9 (Line Plots, Coordinate Grids, and Line Graphs). We will continue to review fraction skills and return back to Chapter 7 & 8 Multiplying and Dividing Fractions after finishing Chapter 9.

Multiplication facts are very important for Fraction skills. Students should practice these skills frequently with worksheets, flashcards or websites. You can print your own worksheets from Math-drills.com (website listed in Tab above).

SCIENCE
Fourth Grade
4th grade will be learning about the three basic cloud formations and the water cycle. There will be a Diocesan Assessment for each during this next week.
Fifth Grade
5th grade is working on Lesson 2 in Life Science which includes the 5 Kingdoms and smaller groupings such as genus and species. They should be ready for a quiz on Friday.

Religion
We have a special Mission scheduled for Tuesday this week. Wednesday we have our weekly mass and receive Ashes. We will wrap up Chapter 6 Doing Good this week as we enter into the Lenten Season. Due to the mission and Ash Wednesday Mass, students will complete the Chapter 6 Test and Activity as a take home test.
