On Monday at 10:00am, Pilot Sparke from Southwest Airlines will continue with the 3rd visit of the 4 week Adopt-a-Pilot program. Students are asked to think about what careers they may be interested in, submit a design for Southwest Airline ties, and calculate his mileage flown last week. We also saw the country from above with his geography lesson!
MATH
Fourth Grade Math
We wrap up Chapter 7, Adding & Subtracting Fractions with Like Denominators as we cover Lessons 9 - 10 this week. Students will have the Chapter 7 Test on Friday. Since 4th graders will not have math class on Thursday, due to the field trip, there will be time for questions and a brief review prior to the test on Friday. The best way to prepare is by completing and correcting the Chapter Review packet (homework on Tuesday & Wednesday), reviewing Animated Math Models, and turning in the Extra Credit "Extra Practice Chapter 7" page from their Practice Book. Thanks to the students who turned in their missing work. I will continue to post it as a "note" on teacherease. Last day to turn in missing work for Quarter 3 is Tuesday, March 18.
Reminders:
The GoMath online activities offer good ways to practice the Math skills we have learned or will learn. Students have the login information. You can access the website from the Math Websites Tab above. For fraction skills covered in Chapter 7, logon to GoMath activities "Carmen San Diego Animated Math Models" Grade 4 icon (skills 27 - 32) and Mega Math Fraction Action.
Students should practice Multiplication and Division basic facts frequently with worksheets, flashcards or websites. You can print your own worksheets from Math-drills.com, play online games (see Math Websites Tab above), or borrow some "Holey Cards" from Mrs. Hall.
Fifth Grade Math
5th graders will wrap up Chapter 9, Algebra & Graphing this week by covering lessons 5 - 7. The Chapter 9 Test will occur on Friday. There will not be 5th Grade Math help after school this week, as I will be at a Diocesan meeting until 4pm. I will be available Wednesday morning at 7:15 for 5th graders that want to review Chapter 9 skills. The best way to prepare is completing and correcting the Chapter Review packet (homework on Wed. & Thu.), reviewing the online Animated Math Models, and doing the Extra Credit "Extra Practice Chapter 9" page from their Practice Book. We have also been working with fractions this chapter as we learn to relate Fractions to Decimals. Chapter 7, multiplying fractions will be next. Thanks to the students who turned in their missing work. I will continue to post it as a "note" on teacherease. Last day to turn in any missing work for Quarter 3 is Tuesday, March 18.
