Week of May 5



MATH 

Fourth Grade Math
4th graders will continue with Chapter 10 Geometry, reviewing Lessons 1-3 on Monday.  There will be a Quiz on Wednesday.  Due to the VIP Schedule, we will only have Math for 2 days.  Students will be doing Math Fact Fluency practices this week to assess their skills.  Students will also receive some assignments in a skill review packet this week.  
Reminders:  
      To practice decimal skills covered in Chapter 9, logon to GoMath activities  "Carmen San Diego Animated Math Models" Grade 4 icon (skill 34-37) and Mega Math Fraction Action. 
      Students should practice Multiplication and Division basic facts frequently with worksheets, flashcards or websites.  You can print your own worksheets from Math-drills.com, play online games (see Math Websites Tab above), or borrow some "Holey Cards" from Mrs. Hall.

Fifth Grade Math 

5th graders will continue with Chapter 10, covering problem solving with customary units and learning to convert using metric units.  We will take a Computation Test covering whole numbers, decimals and fractions on Wednesday, similar to the homework assignment given over the weekend.  

Reminders:  
       The GoMath online activities offer good ways to practice Math skills. To practice skills for Chapter 10, GoMath Carmen San Diego Animated Math Models for Skills 33-39.  
       Multiplication facts are very important for Fraction skills. Students should practice these skills frequently with worksheets, flashcards or websites.  You can print your own worksheets from Math-drills.com (website listed in Tab above).

SCIENCE 

Fourth Grade 

4th graders will finish Lesson 1 - complete the review and take a quiz on Wednesday due to the V.I.P schedule.  
  
Fifth Grade 

5th graders will investigate the inheritance of genes by making a model and explore what Mendel learned about inheritance of traits and learn how scientists studeied genes and chromosomes.  No quizzes this week. 

Reading, Spelling & Vocab Highlights
             
Reading: Novels for Reading: Author Jerry Spinelli
             Mrs. Stillo's class is reading Maniac Magee
             Mrs. Hall's class is reading Crash
             Students will practice comprehension skills and learn new vocabulary. 
             There will be quizzes given about once a week. We anticipate the 
             novel study to take 3-4 weeks as most of the reading will be done in 
             class.  
          
Spelling: Lesson 34  
             Workbooks due on Thursday. 
             Test and 5x each assignment on Friday.
                  
Vocabulary:              
            Unit 16 Test - Monday, May 5.             
            Unit 17 Cards  Due Friday. 

Religion

We will finish Family Life and Begin Chapter 8 in our Religion Book.
