Week of September 29


 GOMATH Online Access:  To use the website we should continue to share the logins for numbers 1 - 4 ( instead of individual student numbers).

MATH 

Fourth Grade 
4th graders will continue with Chapter 2, Multiply by 1-digit numbers by covering multiplication using the standard regrouping algorithm, the distributive property, expanded form (area model), and partial products.  There is an emphasis on estimating the product before multiplying. Quiz on Friday covering Lessons 1 - 7, and 10. Students will receive a Problem Solving Project on Thursday this week.  It will be due on Wednesday, October 8. Use Carmen San Diego Math Models, Skills 5-12, to practice skills in Chapter 2. 

Multiplication Facts: Practice facts for 2s, 5s, and squares (3x3, 4x4, and so on) this week. You can print your own worksheets from Math-drills.com, play online games (see Math Websites Tab above), or borrow some "Holey Cards" from Mrs. Hall. 

Fifth Grade  
5th graders will continue with Chapter 2, Divide Whole Numbers by covering Lessons 2 - 5 which review estimating quotients and dividing with 1-digit divisors as preparation for using 2-digit divisors.  Students received a review handout for division to be kept in their spirals.  Also, students will be assigned an Expression/Order of Operations project due on Wed. October 8th.  Use Carmen San Diego Math Models, Skills 8-14, to help prepare for the test. 

Multiplication Facts: Continue practicing multiplication facts this week will begin on the 2s, 5s and memorizing the squares (3x3, 4x4, and so on).  Memorizing the squares early on will help as we progress. You can print your own worksheets from Math-drills.com, play online games (see Math Websites Tab above), or borrow some "Holey Cards" from Mrs. Hall.

4th Graders only:  Tue. 2:20pm  - 3:15pm
5th Graders only:  Wed.  2:20pm - 3:15pm
Before School (students need a "Mrs. Hall permission note")
Both 4th and 5th Graders:
 Wednesday and Fridays from 7:15am - 7:45am 



SCIENCE 

Fourth Grade 


4th graders will have a quiz on Lesson 2 - "How Are Length and Volume Measured?" on Monday. 

We will begin learning about mass and density.

Fifth Grade 

5th graders are finishing up Lesson 2 and will have a quiz on Lesson 2 on Tuesday.  We will begin learning about weathering, erosion and deposition. 

Reading, Spelling & Vocab Highlights
             
Reading: Storytown Theme 2, Lesson 7, When the Circus Came to Town   
             Genre: Historical Fiction 
             Comprehension skills: Theme, Author Point of View 
             Comprehension & Vocabulary Test on Friday.   

Spelling (Purple Spelling Practice Book): Lesson 6 
             Workbooks are due on Thursday for Mrs. Hall & Mrs. Stillo.
             The Lesson 6 Test and 5x each assignment and optional Pretest 
                   are due on Friday.

                   practice and games using our current word list. 

Vocabulary (Blue Workbook):                     
            Unit 3 workbook is due Friday, October 3rd. 
            Unit 3 Test will be Monday, October 6

Religion

Students did a very good job on the bullying essays. This week we begin Chapter 2, and we will learn about scripture reflection, true happiness and the story of the Women at the Well.
