MATH
Fourth Grade
It's hard to believe we
are already in the last week of the 1st quarter. This week we are beginning
Chapter 3: Multiplication by two-digit numbers using all the strategies learned
in Chapter 2. We are also going to be journaling more in our spiral
notebooks about problem solving strategies. Encourage your student to be more
diligent about using his/her notes for tests. We are finishing our
Chapter 2 test on Monday and having our 7's fact test by the end of the week.
The 7's are due in our spirals by Wednesday.
Fifth Grade
This week we will catch up with
our Number Personalities, continue with Chapter 3 focusing on adding decimals
and estimating sums, review vocabulary and practice extended responses for a Diocesan
Assessment on Friday. On Friday, we will also have a vocabulary
quiz covering Chapters 1 - 3. The facts for the 8s are due on
Wednesday this week, but we will have the timed practice next week.
4th & 5th Grade Multiplication Facts
This week we will test on the SEVENS! Most fourth graders should aim for completing 25 facts per minute and fifth graders should aim for completing 30 facts per minute. You can print your own worksheets from Math-drills.com, play online games (see "Math Websites Tab" above), or borrow some "Holey Cards" from Mrs. Hall.

SCIENCE
Fourth Grade
4th graders will be
reviewing for the Chapter 1 Test on Thursday, October 29th.
Please keep a look
out for the two essay questions from the Chapter 1 test. The children
will write the two questions on their Study Guide, (which will be given to them
on Tuesday) and they are to answer the question and memorize the answer for the
test. I will be giving them other study aids.
Fifth Grade
5th graders will
begin Lesson 4 and learn how rocks change form and what fossils found in rock
layers tell about how the earth has changed. There should be a quiz on
Lesson 4 on Friday.

Religion
This week your
students will choose a saint for their “Saint Report s” and be given a rubric
to guide them in their research.
The project will be due the second week of November. Any books on the lives of the saints or
materials you would like to share for our research would be greatly
appreciated. We will be completing a Review of Unit 1 and having a test on
Chapter 3 on Thursday. It would be
a good idea to reread the chapter and review any new terms we have discussed.
