Week of November 2

MATH

Fourth Grade

It is the end of the quarter and we have learned many new strategies in multiplication. This week we will take our first Diocesan Assessment.  We will do a practice one together so they can get used to the steps needed to solve an exemplar –type problem.  The first Assessment is in the “Algebraic  Thinking” Domain.  We will also begin Round #2 of “Number Personalities” which will involve multiplication using the Partial Product method.  The students have worked very hard this quarter on some very difficult concepts and tests and they should be congratulated.

Fifth Grade

5th graders will continue with Chapter 3 Decimal Addition & Subtraction and cover Lessons 7 - 11 this week. Those lessons deal with estimating sums and differences, adding, subtracting, identifying patterns and rules, solving multiple step decimal problems and applying properties to decimal addition. There will be a short quiz on Friday and we will begin the Chapter Review. I anticipate the Chapter 3 Test on Tuesday, 11/10, or Wednesday.

4th & 5th Grade Multiplication Facts
This week we will test on the EIGHTS! Most fourth graders should aim for completing 25 facts per minute and fifth graders should aim for completing 30 facts per minute. You can print your own worksheets from Math-drills.com, play online games (see "Math Websites Tab" above), or borrow some "Holey Cards" from Mrs. Hall.

Religion

This week we will be continuing our research for our Saint Reports.  I’m changing the due date for the rough draft to Friday, November 6th.   Hopefully we will begin Chapter 4 which is on “The Mystery of the Trinity”.  The scripture readings for the Mass are taken from Thessalonians 4: 13-18 and John 11:21-27.  The students enjoyed reading from the book of Exodus about Moses and the “Burning Bush” and they are finding it easier to navigate their way around the Bible.  We are finishing up Chapter 3 and have explored many signs of God’s presence in Scripture, the Sacraments, and in our daily lives.
